Maxell LTO-3 can be easily differentiated from the LTO1 cartridge (black), LTO 2 cartridge (purple) and gray colored universal LTO ultrium cleaning cartridge. Maxell LTO 3 cartridges have cartridge memory (built in) that stores records of historical usage, data searches of high speed and indexing by the tape drive. This is unique feature of the LTO tape format. 7 leading technologies are integrated by the Neo-SMART technology of Maxell that are necessary for the expansion of the storage capacities from GB to TB. Neo-SMART consists of fine particles of metal, advanced dispersion, ultra-fine coating, and high servo precision tracking, cartridge with high performance, precise slitting and excellent calendaring.
These advanced technologies are developed and made perfect because of the experience gained by manufacturing and developing tape media and research done through the years. The Nano-Composite Advanced Particles (Nano-CAP) technology gives superior magnetic performance in comparison to the conventional particles of needle shape. With the help of Nano-CAP technology, the saturation magnetization is very high along with outstanding coercivity. The particles of Nano-CAP have spherical shape that enables the formation of packing structure (that is closest possible) and the quantity per unit volume of the particles also increases. In this way magnetic coating can be formed that are extremely thin, so it allows further enhancing of the levels of output in the future. Maxell plans to leverage the technology of Nano-CAP fully in creating the data cartridge class of 10 TB.
Gray-blue is the color of the Maxell LTO3 data tape cartridge for its easy identification. It can hold 400GB of data (800GB compressed). Maxell LTO-3 provides 40 to 80 MB/sec native and 80 to 160 MB/sec of compressed transfer speed. The tape length is about 680 meters with 12.65mm of tape width and the tape’s thickness is 8µm. The dimensions of the Maxell tape cartridge are 102.0mm x 105.4mm x 21.5mm.
